When you start out on your journey as a brand new stylist, you start out with minimal experience. Like me, you probably have all this excitement, questions , positive energy and ambition to take this career by the bull horns. You got talent, skill and your game is tight and you know it! As a matter of fact, you want the world to know just how GREAT you are. I remember when I got my first assistant job and I was so excited to learn how to blow-dry some hair. School didn’t teach me the best fundamentals and my styling skills was  a 4 out of 10, but I was excited!!! I was ready to take on any challenges that came my way. I knew that getting my license was all I needed to build nothing into something!!

Well, early on I was frustrated with myself, frustrated with the salon I was at and frustrated with the people I was working with. Sure, don’t get me wrong, I loved to hang out with some of my co-068.JPG1workers after work, but I felt I wasn’t getting what I needed to create something from nothing. I saw so many stylist with bad habits, bad salon etiquette and no sense of direction to build. To some stylist doing hair was more like a chore, than a passion. One thing I learned early on was to never allow other people’s bad habits to effect the way I was growing. When you start out with nothing but passion, it is easy to fall into the traps of this business. It is easy to get caught up in the drama, the negativity and other things that are irrelevant to the overall growth of success. If you want something so bad, so much, what do you have to do, starting today to make that something HAPPEN?

I always believed that to become a successful stylist you have to make a OVER-TIME COMMITMENT TO GROWTH! Not a part-time commitment or a full-time commitment, but a overtime commitment. You have to commit yourself to excellence. You have to commitment yourself to staying positive. You have to commit yourself to goals that will allow you to grow. You have to commit yourself to education. You have to commit yourself creating GREAT HABITS. You have to make this and over-time 24/7 journey. These commitments take that must work. It takes smart work and hard work.To turn something into nothing, you must be able to live up to your own commitments and not allow anyone or anything to get in the way. There is no greater sense of success than to allow yourself to build something from pure commitment. Commitment is nothing more that a CERTIFIED PROMISE to yourself, that under no circumstances you will not give in or give up on YOU! You started out with an idea to succeed and you must allow it to transform you into something greater. Today, I want you to take out 45 minutes of your day and write down 6 Promises or 6 Commitments that will allow you to grow! These commitments are set up for you to break down, study, learn and figure out a way to make nothing into something. You already have it in you. I believe in YOU!

To help get you going, here is a commitment list I made almost 12 years ago. It makes me excited to know that I have accomplished all of these commitments. The best part is that they started from nothing but pure passion.

  1. I will commit to finding the best educational salon in my area
  2. I will commit to diversity and learning all textures of hair
  3. I will commit to learning how to do an effective blow-dry on every texture of hair
  4. I will commit to finding a Coach or Mentor to help guide me through my success journey
  5. I will commit to becoming a stylist in 12 months
  6. I will commit to creating a solid business plan for myself

Remember, to enjoy the journey and be patient! Experience is the best Teacher of all!

Everyday should be a day to think. think. think. Then take Action. Sometimes taking action is all it takes to see BIG changes happen immediately.

Do you feel that taking ACTION may be the hardest part to accomplishing a goal? Do you think that thinking of an amazing IDEA is hard to put into action?

I remember when I first started off as a hairstylist,  when I was afraid and frightened to work on a client in cosmetology school that I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do. That doubt and fear kept me frozen to take ACTION. That doubt and fear kept me in the DARK and limited my ability to THINK about advancing forward. Working to become an accomplished stylist is not easy and their is no built in manual that is customized to the changes we face everyday as stylist.

Thinking back inside of that cosmetology school, I knew that the passion was inside of me but the fear kept me frozen. The only way to conquer such fear is by THINKING BIG. THINKING RIGHT NOW, and TAKING ACTION. Sometimes it is only makes perfect to make mistakes over and over again, until you get it right. You can beat fear and doubt in that race by applying the take action now philosophy. There is no reason to procrastinate if you believe in yourself. There is no reason to doubt if passion drives you to wake up daily to push forward with no regrets.

Starting today, I want you to think about your goals. Today, I want to think about your accomplishments. Today, I want you to think about the NOW and LET GO of your fears and TAKE ACTION. That’s right take action TODAY. If you have been thinking of opening a salon, TAKE ACTION. If you have been thinking of starting a product line, TAKE ACTION. If you have been thinking of managing a Salon, becoming a educator, taking an expensive class take action.

If you are struggling to MAKE MORE MONEY behind the chair we have an amazing Webinar, heading your way! It’s all about taking action and boy do we have a plan for you. We will teach you simple step by step formulas that takes THINKING and ACTION to make work. Join us on April 22nd as we shift gears and face our fears, once and for all.
